SMALL SIGNS

Hello again. I thought I would put up a couple of my smaller signs to show what you can have made for your business or perhaps your home or cabin. These two are made of red cedar and work well for trade shows as well as store front signage.

SIGNS AND CARVINGS

It's never too late to get a new sign made for your business, home or cabin. How about having that tree caved that you just took down. The tree carved in the picture above came down in the big blow down that cleaned out Stanly Park in Vancouver. This red cedar almost took out the house of a local doctor so he decided to have me carve it with the view from his house. Now that's good karma.
The sign in the picture was also carved in red cedar and made for a company in Japan.

WEST COAST NATIVE ART

To show there is a bit more versatility in my repertoire I offer a variety of West Coast Native art for sale. These particular samples were all commissioned and are therefore already hanging in their respective homes but let me know what you would like and I will work together to create something just right for you. The canoe in the picture above is eight feet long and constructed as a half canoe so it fits flat on the wall. The drum painting was painted on an authentic skin drum and the painting in the top picture was painted on some beautiful laminated red cedar.

SIGNS FOR HOME OR BUSINESS

Here are more samples for you to peruse. Just imagine your family name or a great slogan for that winter or summer cabin made just for you. Be the only one on your block or by the lake with something nice to represent you and your retreat. I make my work with recycled materials to keep everything as green as possible because, like you, I strive to be part of the solution.

IN VINO VERITAS

Here we have an example of a carving on one of the small barrel tops. These little guys are hard to find if you are looking for a used barrel one with character however the client had his own. I tried to give this the old pirate ship look as if it had just come onto the docks after a long journey on board.

TOAD HOLLOW

For all you toad lovers out there we have this carving which is a copy of the actual wine label for Toad Hollow Vineyards which is an extremely nice wine. This piece was done for a fan of that wine and considered this to look great hanging in her wine cellar. I do apologize for the less than perfect picture I took but my good camera went kaput and I had to get this piece crated and shipped ASAP so....well what can I say. At least you get the idea and after all, I'm a carver, not a photographer.

GRAPE ROSETTE

this particular barrel carving is one I have done for three clients now due to the popularity of the design. All of this design is carved into the barrel top except for the "S" which I applied on top. As you can imagine, this is quite a time consuming piece to carve but the final result works well. I left the name of the barrel maker in the design of this particular piece since it was made in France and added a bit of panache.

McSWIGGAN'S BAR IN NEW YORK

Here is a unique barrel carving done for McSwiggan's Bar in New York. The image is of a "skull bike" which is a motorcycle handlebar with clutch and brake cables replacing the horns on the skull. This bar has been around for a long time and really rocks.

WINE CELLARS

Here are some samples of my work hanging in a couple of typical wine cellars to give you an idea how these carved barrel tops can enhance such a space. Imagine a custom made heirloom for your family and friends to admire as well as something to pass down to next generations. All you have to do is contact us and we will get the barrel rolling....so to speak.

BLUE GROUSE

Top of the morning again. Here is a piece I like because of the clean look. The blue and grey hues of the carved grouse lend themselves well with the natural browns of the barrel. This piece is displayed at numerous trade shows so it has to be quickly identified and nice to look at.

DUNHAM CELLARS

Hello again. Here is a carving of the logo for a winery called Dunham Cellars that I did for a client who loves their wine. The best part of the contract was the last minute call from the client asking for me to carve the face of another child into the barrel top. It seems he has three children and there are only two represented in the original logo. Unfortunately I have no shot of the added element but suffice it to say it was done and the marriage was saved and everyone was happy. Sigh.

COOPER

Top of the morning. This time I thought I would show an example of one of the full barrels I carved. Ironically it was done for the Cooper clan. This piece was quite involved since I had to carve four very small lions into the oak. I'm very happy with the result and the piece reflected the old castle look I was going for.

NORDIC NURSARY

Here is a barrel top carving with lots of perspective carved into the 3/4" thick oak. The horse's shadow line across the grape vines amplifies this effect. Also notice the glass of the green houses in the distance.

THE ARTFUL DODGER

Here is an example of character carving. This barrel top was carved for a local pub. I remember when doing it the character became alive. I had visions of him dancing in the workshop when I was away.

THE ARTIST'S COTTAGE

Here is another barrel top carving in the Lake Breeze series. This particular one was made for the "Artist's Cottage". With this piece I tried to convey the feeling of the old European artist by showing the classic still life within an old studio. The view through the window is the same as the view from the actual cottage where the piece hangs.

LAKE BREEZE COTAGE

Hello again, this barrel top is another of the five Lakebreeze Winery series I carved. The view on the image is the same view seen from the window of the cabin in which it hangs. The rolling vineyards heading down to the lake are depicted through the opened shutters. Once again the wood is only 3/4" thick so the challenge was in creating the deep perspective in the scene.

Winemaker's Cottage

This barrel "The Winemaker's Cottage" is one of a series of five I carved for a winery in Naramata, British Columbia. The winery, called Lake Breeze Winery, has a few new cottages on their property and I was contracted to make a carving for each one. I utilized the view from each cabin as well as adding some design element relating to the name of the cottage. In this case I used the illusion of a wrap around ribbon and trophy to symbolize the recognition of the wine maker.

Hudson House

This particular barrel is one of a pair I carved for a local company in the Gastown area of Vancouver. The oak barrel tops are generally about 3/4 to 5/8 inches thick so I use carving techniques and paint shading to amplify the depth.

The letters are carved in so I can allow the main surface to reveal a nice stain showing off the beauty of the oak.

Cheers,

Peter
